A little closer to wine countryNapa Valley, California

A sense of place

of the valley.

Start with one area. Let the rest of the day stay close.

Think in areas, not a list of famous names.

This is an orientation guide, not a driving map. Napa and Carneros sit toward the southern part of a wine-country trip; Yountville, Rutherford and St. Helena lead you farther up the valley, with Calistoga to the north. Appointment locations and real travel conditions still matter.

A flexible beginning

Downtown Napa

Build an arrival afternoon around town rather than a tightly timed winery booking. The riverfront and market area offer a different pace from an estate visit.

A food-led day

Yountville

Use one winery appointment and one considered meal as the structure. CHANDON gives this area a sparkling-wine option, while the town provides a natural break between plans.

A central-valley focus

Rutherford & St. Helena

Rutherford and St. Helena are separate places: check individual locations rather than treating the whole area as walkable. A Frog’s Leap appointment can anchor a day here.

Leave room to unwind

Calistoga

Give the northern valley its own day. A Sterling tasting and a meal around Calistoga make more sense than adding a last-minute journey back to Carneros.

Where does Carneros fit?

A Domaine Carneros visit can anchor a southern-valley plan. Treat it as an alternative to a northern-valley day, not a mandatory first stop before Calistoga.
